There is no question of arrogance here. Some deal are not fair enough so we may need to rejects them, the same case would be with yahoo.

Yeah microsoft has lots of things to offer us. They have many products which are used by people but yahoo.....Not such a big guy...Obviously microsoft is bigger player...But when I compared in terms of search engine then yahoo beats them...
It might be because of the price which lead to rejection...

I guess it's google who's the top pick!
moreover I have no idea about why yahoo rejected their offer, but I suspect there was google's hand somewhere in that issue. :p

Remember though that both Yahoo and Microsoft have shareholders to answer to. Google's not the #1 choice everywhere in the world either. It makes sense for them to tackle Google together but the price has to be a fair one.

And they weren't talking about a merger before, but an acquisition. There's a difference. In a merger both parties are more or less on an equal footing when they join forces. In an acquisition, one is dominant and the sole owner of everything. In this case it would have been Microsoft, which in part explains Yahoo's reluctance to agree too quickly.

Today there was news out that they're talking again. Not about an acquisition this time but a different kind of partnering.

In early discussions that began in the last several weeks that apparently included a face-to-face meeting last week, Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer are finally talking about search and also advertising partnerships the companies could possibly strike, said several sources with knowledge of the situation.

According to a variety of sources, the talks between the pair and also other execs at both companies are preliminary and also wide-ranging, focused on what kinds of commercial relationship Yahoo and Microsoft could have in the future.

But, cautioned sources close to Yahoo, the discussions are not about a renewed acquisition attempt by Microsoft and also might not result in any deal.
