Thread: Blogging and Reading

  1. #1

    Default Blogging and Reading

When writing a blog entry, remember that reading a screen is more difficult than reading print or a book.

Try to avoid paragraphs longer than 3 to 5 sentences.

Get to the point. Teasing a reader makes them find something else to read.

Assuming you want banners hat compliment your topics, place 120x120 banners where readers' eyes tend to fall. Most readers skim a paragraph from the upper right hand corner to the lower right hand corner.

    Any other tips?

I would have to agree with this.. I noticed that when I took off all the extra content leaving my site simple and blunt my sales went up and my bounce rate went down.

I personally recommend having a page of simple text with option to view a in-depth page of content, this way you are satisfying both those who like to get straight to the point and those that like in-depth information.

    Thanks!

Remember to add new content daily. It keeps users coming back, and it keeps the blog "alive". This is often overlooked, and writers do not realize how important fresh content is.

Thanks for those! I have a real aversion to the "Wall of Text" type posts. I simply don't read them.

As for getting to the point, it depends on the subject I'd say. Sometimes I like to read something that meanders a little but that's the writer in me. I would expect to read something that's a bit more flowery than most blog posts if it's say for example about a childhood memory. On the other hand if it was a "how to", I'd want the info fast.

Not sure I'm grasping your banner ads point here. I agree they should be where their eyes fall, but I don't read from right to left, so why would I look at the upper right hand corner and the lower right hand corner first? If anything it would be the upper left then lower right, surely? Maybe that's country specific for those whose language is read right to left.

For anyone that really wants to know what people look at first on your site regardless of how you read, check out this tool I posted about right here at PromoJunkie:

Daily content might depend on the topic and how deep it is.

When writing about those interested in skincare, at the chemical or ingredient level, one article a week can be enough because these articles tend to be longer and more involved.

If writing really short entries, though, it's easier and probably better to post an entry each day.

Since the type of entry is audience specific, it's good to consider your audience before setting up for daily posts.

I have noticed that blog networks, which require 4 posts a day on top of the blogger doing all the promotional work, have content that is thin and meaningless. I attribute this to the fat that the more often there are entries, the harder it is to remain relevant, much less interesting.

Well what you have said about the paragraph is true. Long length paragraph really piss-off people. I too try to write short paragraph article most of the time.

thanks for the sharing this with us....
and i really feel that many of the longer paragraphs become quite boring though they have a good content.......
but in some article it is needed to make it simple to understand......
