difference between : "page" and "post" option in wordpress blog

Well, I found that there are two ways to write posts in wordpress blog. One is using "post" options, and the other one is using "page" option. Yesterday I wrote my first post using page and then saved, but if I open my blog, the page is not showing up. Can you tell me what's the difference between the "post" and "pages"? Also, how to access posts written by using pages?

Blog posts usually just is shown like a post in your blog and the newest ones are on top or by categories, it depends and a page as I know is a page having a permanent link, you can add it in your blog navigation or menu and I guess thats the difference. You can create pages as if they were pages of your site/blog and post blog can like like news of your site/blog. :P
