Definately.. and how would i protect it from hackers and stuff... like would i use a normal firewall or what?

Nah...that won't work...u have to create multiple layers of security...Say a hacker gets past one layer...they would still have to go through another...etc...

Perhaps encrypting all your data? Also, you will have to cHMOD all the files properly and a lot of other stuff...If you're going to host ur own site, you have to be connected to the internet the whole time, so you really have to have tight security before you put your site out live...

All the software that you need for a web site is combinated in appserv (Apche +php + myslq+phpmyadmin). And it's simple and easy configble. The apache and mysql are installed as services. You can put your files in the www dir.
It's very simple!

If you want to be a host or something, then i think you need to buy your own server from where you can run other ppls sites, its actually a pretty good business you can have ads up on otehr ppls site as long as you offer some space for free...i might get into this business
