Why companies mainly offer web hosting for month or per year?

Why companies mainly offer web hosting for month or per year? have seen most of the companies are offering web hosting for 12 months or one month. Is there any company who is providing web hosting more than 12 months at same cost?

there doesn't seem to be a lot of demand for contracts over a year in length, so most providers don't list it on their website. Many companies will customize 2 year pricing for you if you ask.

usually longer billing terms mean also the price lowening. For example such company as serverpoint made their pricing for year cheaper by the value equivalent to the two months of usual billing.

Others, like hostsvault, give a coupon codes for half price cut-off for the billingperiods longer than a month.

Also there are companies offering biennale billing but there are very few of them.

I have heard about companies with bi annual payment plans. I would never pay for such a long term though.

There are a few companies out there that offer up to 3 years at a time. I don't offer longer than a year just for cash flow purposes. It is also better for you as a client for a shorter term, in case you need to change hosts.
