    Default Windows Hosting

I know most sites run on Linux servers. Anyone here using Windows for their hosting? What are the advantages of doing so over Linux?

    Default The Linux server

The Linux server will be more secure for your site. If you want to connect to a database you will need to learn a bit about MySQL (probably) and writing PHP web pages. The Windows server will be more prone to worms and malicious attack and you will need to learn MS SQL server and writing ASP web pages if you want to connect that to a database.

^^ 7host.comappears to be really attractive windows host!

I suppose their discounts would be suitable here:
7HOST20LK: 20% off for hosting services
7HOST15DS: 15% off for dedicated servers
7HOST10HC: 10% off for hosting credits

Linux server is more secure, that's the reason most of the people prefer it over Windows.

I prefer to use companies which provide both Linux and Windows platforms like hostingsource, lunarpages and webhostgiant.
You know it's convenient as you may change the OS any time you need it.
Plus their services are low cost.

Well I' the oddball. I'm runnng on Windows servers. Thats because the sites in question are running server side asp/asp.net. Its not so much an advantge of the server its that I'm more conversant with these server side languages and my training on MIcrosoft products such as IIS.

Linux is not necessarily more secure, security when implemented correctly can be equally as effective on windows and Linux. Remember ALL HOSTS should have in place an appropriate frewall and security policy in place. Windows also has inbuilt security for access also

Partially true any server can be prone to any type of virus or worm attack, not just Windows. It is true that Microsoft OSs are more prone to malicious attacks, although this is more genral across all Microsoft operating systems rather than servers in paticular.

Pretty much true in the main if you are running a linux server (or UNIX) for that matter

Incorrect on 2 counts, firstly you need to learn SQL not MS SQL (SQL is the acronym for STANDARD QUERY LANGAUAGE) as SQL is standardised across databases, and MS can also run MySQL databases too. Secondly Windows servers can turn off the IIS package and run other server software such as apache with support for MySQL and PHP too inthe same way that Linux packages can support asp wih the appropriate server software package.
