Shared Web Hosting

I think I have a basic understanding of what shared web hosting is. My question now is, is it a good idea for me just starting out? It seems like it would be less expensive. Are there any other pros to shared web hosting? What about the drawbacks?

Shared web hosting is ideal if you are just starting out. The cost is reasonable, and you won't have to worry about administering the server (your webhost is responsible for that). On the other hand, one downside is that you will be sharing the server resources with many other websites, and if one of them is running a faulty script (for instance) the whole server will slow down. Most hosts will monitor this, though, so it usually isn't a concern for new sites with low traffic volume.

I would advise starting out on shared.

You will need time to learn linux and how to run servers, and shared is fully managed by the Company, so it is much easier + cheaper for you to get on with your site.

As I know Shared hosting is where your hosting is on the same server with other users to share the resources. All of our shared hostings come with a control panel, cPanel for linux and dotnetpanel for windows.
