Usually people jump from shared to vps and vps to dedicated hosting, but nothing is wrong to upgrade hosting package from shared to dedicated directly. After all it depends on your hosting resource requirements and budget.

Not yet but I'm also planning to do the same but not sure about it. Dedicated servers are better than Shared ones.
I believe that it will be much better to move to VPS from shared account and then rent a dedicated server..

Why not go to VPS instead of Dedicated straight. Many of our clients went from shared to VPS because they needed more dedicated CPU for their websites.
Dedicated is always better but is more expensive... is all about cost-benefit
