    Default Running an image hosting.

I am interested in running a small and straight to the point image hosting service, like http://www.imageshack.us/. Of course not so big, I just gave an example of what I mean "straight-forward".

Can I start with a shared hosting plan or do I need to go directly for a dedicated server? Many companies provide some 'sexy' plans with tons of bandwidth and drive space, but they oversell of course, and I am worried about account cancellation sooner or later.

Would it be safe to start with shared hosting, and then move on to VPS or even a dedicated server (when needed) or I'm going to enjoy my account being suspended for good?

    :ermm:

May i suggest v7inc.com ? they offer pretty good bandwith and much web space and are definitely not oversellers.
My suggestion start with a shared hosting like the above. You get popular move to VPS. You become the new imageshack buy dedicated
    Good Luck!

Hey Thanoz. I checked them, but I'm a bit disappointed.

    I saw a nice message at their home page, saying;
"V7 Inc is full up. We are no longer accepting new clients. Thank you for your interest, and our sincere apologies for not being able to accommodate your needs."
Would you pay $ 19,95/month (which isn't cheap, for 1 GB space and 30 GB bandwidth) to a company that cannot deal with increased demand? I wouldn't!

Plus, their site is a bit... weird. I can access their home page only. Any link, leads to a "Server not found." error.

    :dunno:

Well, the fact that they said that they are full is really good!
What do i mean: That proves they are not oversellers, and care about their customers.
They have received even the best webhost prize once.

The prices are ok if they offer 99.9% true uptime i guess

Don't worry, John Scott(the owner of v7n.com - v7inc is part of the v7 network) will buy new servers soon

    Spyros,

Few things you want to make sure of...

    1) If you start off on a shared plan, you may want to read the host's TOS/AUP regarding hosting image hosting sites. Some hosts allow it, some dont.

    2) If you host allows image hosting, you want to make sure that the server you are located has GD Graphics Library loaded already on it. Without this, most scripts would fail to work.

    3) If you want to open a image hosting site, start off on a free script. Make sure you understand the script's copyright laws and everything.

Finally, if you were interested in doing this with a partner [me] I'd be more than happy to help. In fact, I was planning to open an image hosting site as well.

Drop me a PM if you want to.

I haven't been able to go online lately so I am not sure if you are still looking for a host or not. If yes then can you give me some information on how much you can spend on hosting, how much space and bandwidth you expect,etc... I will try to search one for you :smile2:

I recommend you to use shared hosting with 'sexy' package first. This step to to "see the market" of you website. If one day your website indicate that there are increasreasing of visitor come to your website you shoul prepare to remove your data and database of your image hosting website data.
