Yes, IMHO, partially agree with you, but comparing the cost of writing good (unique, allways fresh) content articles with the cost of submiting to directories, gues who is cheapper? The most effective method is to make a viral campaign that would require to link to someone's website/blog, but in case you work with an advertising company, the cost for that will be greater than for submiting service or writing articles.
