Thread: Traffic from Directories

  1. #1

    Default Traffic from Directories

I am wondering if my site is listed in big directories, like yahoo, and dmoz, how much traffic would I get per day. If you have any site listed in these directories, then any estimate will be helpful.
    comming soon

If you have listed your site in proper category then you will get nice traffic as so many directories are floating around I think its very difficult to get traffic using directories.

There is no such unique visitor they provide. They are not the like autosurf, in which you buy traffic. Depending upon the keyword searched, the page in which your site is listed are the factors come into the account.

Definitely directory submission is a good way to get traffic too. I will advise you to submit in proper category so you will get proper and targeted traffic.

I would also like to hear the answer from someone. Someone that is listed only in Yahoo Directory or DMOZ Directory. I already know the general directories are useless. Those kind are here today and gone tomorrow. And provide little to no traffic.

As other's said it would depend on the amount of queries of your niche. But on a monthly basis how many visits do you average from the Yahoo Directory or DMOZ Directory?

Spike you're right about general directories are useles for traffic. Having a site in both DMOZ and Yahoo I only get one or 2 referrals a month from each on a good month, and nil on a bad month. There are 2 problems, firstly with DMOZ its too self important and over rated (how long does it take to get listed if at all), or even notified? Secondly both are so big now that it is easy for a listing to get lost in amongst all other listings.

Thanks for answering Alan. This is what I was thinking would be the case. That no matter what directory your in equals zero traffic. I've never heard anybody using directories instead of search engines to find a website. I've submitted to DMOZ months ago and probably won't be accepted, not that I really care.

Users searching for a site normally use a SE not a directory. I would never say zero traffic, but perhaps minimal.

As for DMOZ, even Google has devalued it. Review is too slow, too many cliques of editors looking out for their own interests. DMOZ haaas become too elitist, one that has "shot otself in the foot".
