What is wrong with Google Directory? Whenever I try to submit my site, It takes me to the dmoz. How can i submit my site in google dir?

I have never submitted my blog in Google directory but I know one basic thing. A directory can take you to dmoz general directory only when it is open source project submissions. So I feel the submissions in google directory goes like that...

I have submitted my directories to google and I have got a call from them to confirm that I am an owner of this site. I think you have to submit your site to google directories because if you submit then you dont have any cons. So why not to submit?
