You are going to learn how to identify and work effectively with YELLOWs. They make up 35% of the general population. You may have heard them referred to as Phlegmatic or Amiable.

How to Identify YELLOWs

* Think of Charlie Brown of Peanuts. Charlie is a nice guy and all about making people feel good. Think of a Koala Bear that is soft and cuddly.
* YELLOWs are typically care takers like Kindergarten Teachers, Nurses, and Massage Therapists.
* Their motto is -- Let's be friends.
* YELLOWs talk slowly and softly. They are very polite.
* They are about helping people. They feel responsible for the world's problems. They just want everyone to get along.
* When you can see a YELLOW in person, their dress is casual, comfortable, and often clothes that they've owned for years. They are the world's best huggers. They like comfortable furniture. They will have photos of their family and pets.
* When you are talking to a YELLOW on the phone, they will answer your questions freely, but seldom give additional detail. They do not volunteer their deep dark secrets.

Why You Want YELLOWs on Your Team

* YELLOWs are the world's best listeners, patient, nurturing, and excellent trainers.
* They are fantastic team players, very supportive, and likeable.
* They are dependable. When they say they will do something, consider it done.

How to Speak the Secret Language of YELLOWs

I learned the Secret Language of the YELLOWs from Tom 'Big Al' Schreiter. He calls it Broken-YELLOW.

* Talk about the team and how you work together. Mention that your team is like one big family.
* Ask them about their family. Remember the names of their spouse, children, and pets.
* Talk about how your products and/or services will help people.
* Thank them for being such great trainers for the team.
* Tell them in private how much you appreciate them.

What to Avoid When Working With YELLOWs

* YELLOWs strongly dislike conflict, bullies, and pushy people. When they perceive conflict, they will disappear fast.
* Do not talk about how much money they can make in your business. They care more about helping people.

How Can You As Their Mentor Help YELLOWs

* YELLOWs are natural trainers and very patient. Get them involved in training your team as soon as possible.
* They tend to be overly sensitive and easily get their feelings hurt. Help them not take rejection personally.
* When there is conflict or confrontation, they tend to not stand up for themselves. Encourage them to create their Self--Talk that will help them develop greater Self--Confidence.
* Encourage them to partner with a BLUE or RED.

Your Action Items

Identify a YELLOW on your team (or a prospect). Ask yourself:

* What do they enjoy doing?
* How can they contribute to your team?
* What are some Broken YELLOW phrases to mention?
* How can I help them?
