I dont think that it will effect your S.E.O. It will help google to update your website listing.

You can update your sitemap every 10 seconds if you wanted to but it won't make any difference unless you have new content.

You can update it anytime, best if you have a new 'post' on your site so it would be seen right away

you can update any time you want, if you have a new page created it will help google to crawl your page.

You might also just schedule a new sitemap to be generated of your website every week or so if it's feasible for you to update it constantly.

But it can influence in a minor way your SERP... you will notice the robots (in fact it's a must the you notify the robots with the robots.txt file where your sitemap is located on your server) to come for every new link on your site that you want to be indexed.

Agree with you on that. By you, with is better, to hard-code and send it manually or use a software like blog software and wait for the robots to visit the XML sitemap?
