The formula to calculate your keyword density on a webpage for SEO purposes is :

(Nkr / Tkn) * 100

Where Nkr is how many times you repetead a specific keyword and
Tkn the total words in the analyzed text.

This will result in a keyword density value.

Generally, better to keep Keyword density from 2% to 7%. For example you want to start a site with a keyword, you can have a research about the keword from several sites which is on the top on the search engine have a check about them and see how is the keywords arranged in them.

Well I have read in one of SEO article that keyword density requirement to rank well in Google ranges from 1% to 2.50%. But with Yahoo and MSN, its okay even if you have up to 7% density for your main keyword.

Personally I believe using your main keyword too many times to increase density ruins quality of your content. Better is writing content freely without deliberately focusing on increasing your keyword density.

The natural keyword density is 3% to 7%. It is the basic limit of keywords,

I guess it just depends. If you have content, I think that high content with reduced keyword density would be effective -- but if you lack the content, then I think that increasing the keyword density would work to compensate for the lower content. It depends upon what you are trying to attract people to: what your site is about, visual pics. or more word-based content, too. If you've the time and system, you could try one for a week and then switch and see if there is a difference.
