Thread: Great differences

    Post Great differences

I had noticed a large difference in the Pagerank rankings of the site in Yahoo when compared with Google. My friends site is ranked with in the first ten sites in Google when searched for a specific number of keywords.

The same search in Yahoo with same keywords showed the site among the first 50 sites. Have you noticed this type of regularities in search engine rankings before.

This is a normal thing. Each search engine has it's own set of rules and regulations (called algorithms) that it "grades" website on in order to determine their ranking for keywords.

So that means just because you have a good ranking in on search engine does not mean you will have a good one in another search engine.

so in simple word, different system = different result will shown.

But the case is so strange, usually, if we have good position on google, we will get good position also at yahoo. But why in this case, yahoo ranking for the site is lower than google ?

The reason is that Yahoo is a lower ranked engine is because it isn't as popular as Google. The algorithms are different yes, but they are very similar, in terms of keywords and content and titles.

It's quite common to have sites rranked differntly for the same keywords. Nothing to worry about, just try to increase SERPs on all target SEs.

Yes absolutely right, its the use of different algorithms that causes the difference. Factors taken into account include keyword frequency and proximity.

The popularity of an SE doesn't play a part, how would this explain a low ranking site on Google ranking high on Yahoo?
