Term Competitiveness

Hi all,

Do you guys rank 1 in SERPS for a term that is competitive? How competitive is it? It is okay if you don’t disclose the name of the term. Just let me know the competitiveness of that term. I am involved in an SEO project at the moment. A majority of the terms are easy. Sometimes I think how people manage to compete with competitive words like marketing. Competing with these monster like words is not my cup of tea. What do you guys have to say about it? Do share your experiences with me. Thanks in advance.

I am ranked 1st in a few keywords but they are not hot keywords!
They get around 1000 searches per day.

I generally aim to rank for the longer keywords (2 / 3 words) -- it's easier and while their aren't as much searches, its also more niche traffic.

mostly, high competition keywords are also having the most number of searches... thus, many are still targeting for a very high competition.
the number of search is definitely more important than the competitiveness, so if you are going to choose a keyword, choose which is having good search volume while having less competition

Getting top rankings in search results on highly competitive keywords are not an easy task. For it you need to make your site strong from both on-site and off-site optimization point of views. Competitors activity and proper analysis of Google analytics is the best way to achieve the competitive keywords.

I am ranking top for my hot keywords in my country results.
A good piece of advice is to try to focus on one keyword every time and work on it. Also, keep on mind that maybe you face a limit(e.g. in keyrowd marketing reach #6 position) and never be able to go up. It acutally can happen!
At this point you move forward, don't lose any more time/money/effort on this.

I use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool and Google search to check a term's competitiveness.. I always target for niche high search volume low competitor terms.. when I rank on the top pages for these terms, I then proceed to higher competitor terms.

My site have 1 rank in serp's with one keywords which is really high competitive with good search volume and I am trying to get quality backlinks from high PR do follow sites regularly to maintain my targeted keyword rank.
