How to move a website from .net to .com

Talk about dizzy. I have a dot com for a dot net that I paid 500 for a few years ago but never switched the sites because the domain isn't a keyphrase. DUMB.

The site is a little big, has a db for a forum and about 300 pages on it and 2 subdomains. Its cPanel hosting, they are on the same server and I've done a full backup of the .net, but now what. All the crap in the original site has full urls to the .net in places. Is it enough to move the files then redirect 301 so everything comes out, because the urls in the .com site will still be pointing out to the .net

Hope this isn't too wordy, can anyone lend advice? str82u.net to str82u.com (anything on the dot come is going away)

You can do a 301 redirect. There's a way to set it up in your htaccess file that makes it easy. I don't recall the exact method but usually people just redirect to the new site.

Was the .com previously parked on the .net? Did you think of trying that approach?

    Hi,

It requires scripts which are easily available on many tutorial sites like w3school. Upgrade the code from “str82u.net” and replace it by “str82u.com” in all projects. Your hosting provider could also deploy it for you as well. If you’re still confused then try finding experts on freelance communities like craiglist or servana.com.
