Thread: Politics must never mingle with the affairs of the church

Default Politics must never mingle with the affairs of the church

Sometimes, the church and politics do clash especially when it has something to do with how the state must implement rules. THe church would often questions morality. In the same sense that the church is considered as a hindrance to make the country more progressive.

Is it necessary to separate the two?

Absolutely necessary! When you don't you get religion-run states, and that always ends up stifling all manner of progress, be it technological, social or other. In the US our Founding Fathers realized that from history, and strove to protect us from that very thing, in writing the Constitution to clearly separate the 2. When a religion controls a state, you get what held Europe in the "dark ages", for centuries, or you get an Iran.. Further back, have a close look at the Egyptian culture which revolved around the religion. It just isn't a good mix.

Yes, that would be. Church would be separated from politics as it's a different world. But often times church are always questioning some rules in politics.

I agree, America is all about the separation of the church and state.

One point I should make is that while no religion should run a state, and I have to include the Vatican in this as well, NO STATE stands well without the orderliness of a moral code which most often stems from religious belief and training. That said, it doesn't mean ONLY one religion. Virtually all religions have a core moral code that's pretty much common to them, from one to the next. And we humans NEED a sound moral code by which to live. Neither does keeping the state from being run by a religion mean that NO religious practices should be allowed at state functions; such as prayer time, or special items of religious significance being banned, as long as ALL are accepted equally. It's when one is favored over others that problems arise. But NO religion should control the state in any way, even though it's practices may be seen IN the state openly.
