    Default trouble with joomla

I'm having trouble installing extensions on joomla 1.5. is there anyone that could help me?

    Errors like
"Please enter a package directory" or
"# There was an error uploading this file to the server."

What exactly do i have to input in the "Install from Directory" box?

    Step #1
First you have to download the extension from the Internet. Once you have selected the desired extension or add-on, you need to download it. The file will most likely be in .zip format, which is a compressed file.
    Step #2
Save the file on any folder on your computer so that you will be able to access it later.

    Step #3
After you saved the file, you need to log onto the Joomla administrator panel and go to the Installers menu.

    Step #4
On the Installers menu, you will need to click Upload File and Install.

    Step #5
On the menu, you will need to click Browse.

    Step #6
You now need to select the file of the extension you downloaded earlier. Once selected, click Upload and install.

    Step #7
After you have installed the template, click Continue complete the installation.

I'd unistall and start all over again. Make sure your host has MySQL so the database is set up properly. Most Joomla friendly hosts have Fantastico which is really easy to use. You could also try going to Joomla Download and login for free to get the video that walks you through the Joomla Install. You might find the intall package you downloaded was incomplete too, so delete and re download.-

I think that is a problem on the side of your web host. You may need to contact them and ask about that.

Joomla 1.5.x is a much different animal than Joomla 1.0x - the install does not work exactly like it used to so I noticed one thing that needs to be carefully done during the install or support calls go through the roof on this script.

The FTP settings for the Joomla Administration panel need to be turned on and need to be set to the website's FTP user login details and the FTP path has to be set to the account's website default folder where you plan to install Joomla - example "/public_html" or "/domains/yourwebsite.com/public_html" or whatever ever is relevant to your web hosting situation.

The install instructions aren't clear enough on this and leave the novice user guessing what they need to be. Once I went through several support calls on this I sat down and figured out exactly what was happening and what had to happen in order for the novices to be able to successfully add templates, components and modules to the Joomla site.
