Default Internet Explorer Gains Ground on Firefox

The open-source Firefox browser may be the new kid in town, but Microsoft Latest News about Microsoft is out to show that the sheriff is back with a vengeance, according to some analysts. New figures from Web monitoring firm Net Applications reveal that Microsoft regained some ground from alternate browsers -- including Firefox -- last month.

In July, 87.2 percent of Web site visitors used Microsoft's Internet Explorer, up from 86.56 percent the month before. Firefox, IE's closest rival, saw its share decline from a record high 8.71 percent in June to 8.07 percent this month.

this isnt surprising. seems to me its now only for those who think they are smarter than everyone else and need to download a new browser. oh look, i have a browser you dont have. that makes me special or smart or something.

and plus you always had to download plugins that should have been installed with the download of the browser. and the plugins were buggy so you could never see java stuff. quite unfair.

i dont exactly say that Internet Explorer is better or Firefox is better. i prefer both. Some features of this and some features of that. Firefox does a lot of job but it needs lot of tweaking before getting it to work. Ad yea, i hate plugins and frequent updates!!.

I update windows every week so, with windows, even Internet explorer gets updated.
and may be Internet explorer is gaining back its popularity just because of the upcomming IE7 which promises to add the added functionality of tabbed browsing one of the main features why people prefer Firefox!

I wouldn't agree with that, I use Firefox for the advantages of tabbed browsing. I find it much more convenient and useful than non tabbed browsing. Especially for browsing forums where it is convenient to open lots of windows.
