it depends on what your website is about...if it's about a very hot topic that usually last only for a period of time like a singer or a movie, traffic would definitely drop once people are over it, that's why i always think that if you are planning on invest on your website long-term, you should probably go for some niche that has constant demand.

I don't know what your site is nor what niche its in but if you stop promoting your website. That's most likely the reason why your traffic is down.
