Blogging I'd say is one of the most critical elements because it frequently adds new content to your site, which is what search engines are looking for.

Video submission in popular video sites like youtube is a modern and effective way to attract traffic to a website.

Yeah but the audience of the video, has to directly relate to your website; and that's a hard thing to do unless you have the right niche for your site.

I think blogging and doing both advertising and participating in niche forums are the most useful methods. Video while popular has quite a bit of catching up to do.

To get traffic, make a contest is the best way
But it's too bad, that the fact about the visitor is just visit your site only to join the contest, when the contest end, they'll leave

I have my best results with Social Networks and Credit Based Safelists.

A newer avenue are these Contextual Ad Networks. The posting ads from within them is lame but their Solo ads to member contact emails is impressive. I'm tracking some better than average results with their Solo offers.

A lot of them have an OTO when you first login with a sale on Solo packages.
