Based on my experienced, my site got indexed within 24 hours by pinging it and submitting to social bookmarking sites. It's tested.

In my experience.. After I built a site i submit it to social bookmarkings, put it on blog roll in some of my blogs and then do a blog commenting and Ping.. I am sure you will get index fast if you do this..
