All I would like to know is what kind of increase they might get having such targeted sites pointing at them. I want the top spot, the money's cool too, but the results would be nice to study, cause I'd sponsor a seo contest for link building.

Anyone who has an opinion: If you sponsored it, would it be cool to point the backlink to a 3rd site? SiteA pays, SiteB-y plays and link to SiteZ who wins.
Also, the fall out when the domains fall out could be bad if you didn't keep attrition to a minimum.

I agree especially if you have a reputable website. It may take time, but your efforts will be paid off with patience. Besides, with the Google updates and how they improve their system, we'll never know the penalty of sites who backlink spam in the future. It must be awful to see years of effort go down the drain.

I think cost of increasing page rank is totally dependent on you. How many amount do you want to cost to improve the page rank?
If you cost more then you will get more page rank. I think $100 is optimum cost to promote site.
