I use Adobe products, these are considered to be some of the best, but can also be some of the most daunting to use for newbies. Gimp is s good start for a newbie.

Alan, when you say "Gimp" you mean for linux? I find that just as difficult as photoshop
Generally use ACDSee for most stuff, if an image needs more than a minutes work on it best to just take another picture I reckon.

i'm also using gimp and inkscape for vector. theyre really easy to use than adobe software.
gimp is somehow like photoshop though because they also have layers thats difficult to understand too for newbies but inkscape doesn't have that. as you can draw freely.

i like using Adobe photoshop...it is the fastest and easiest tool to create/adjust/enhance/modify/edit/design our every photo or image into the color of life. Just this best graphics software to fit my needs, it is very useful tool for my work. Now, its enhanced performance with many features that take greater advantage to help us get more done in less time. Photoshop elements that allows for fixing and improving our photos & images with inaccurate color, color casts, overexposure, underexposure, increase image resolution and more?

I am strongly recommended to who are interesting on graphic design; although Adobe photoshop is quite difficult to learn for beginners, but this user friendly application has excellent creation & pattern tools, it will help you more?

I use adobe products: photoshop for making my website layouts, adobe illustrator for making my logo's, adoble flash for my flash and fireworks for fast adjusting stuff.
So I use a lot of adobe, I have the design suite.

as for me, I love Adobe photoshop. CorelDraw is quite useful...but I find it harder to use.
adobe is usually used to modify a photo or picture which the result is to be viewed digitally....
as for coreldraw...usually to make some vector images and tracings...to design the image on t-shirt.
