Default Will having my software in low quality directories hurt my ranking?

    Richard M. from Australia asks:

"We sell a software product, and there are 100s of software download directories on the web of varying quality. Could submitting our product to all of them hurt our rankings or domain trust/authority?"

    Recorded on April 23, 2009.

I think if submitting to those low quality traffic directories, and if google treat this as bad traffic, it may hurts our site page rank, and hence making our site not directory friendly. I won't take the risk, and better submit it to good one.

No, since you are talking about a .exe and not a website. We might score the download directories differently over time but this will not reflect badly on your software product.

There is no reason of being effected by only having your Software in low ranking directories. there rankings would not effect you.

I agree with the idea that there is no reason of your ranking being effected just because your software is submitted to low ranking directories.

It won't hurt, it just may not help. Google and other SE's give directories very little weight anymore, but it won't hurt.
