Getting to control the SERPs

The current web based site status that I have right now is really making me sad as there is a lot of good expectations that I have for the whole matter. I know that not a single webmaster will be happy if there will be a sudden drop in the number of traffic or visitors to their sites. I have done a lot of good SEO efforts for the site that I have at the current times but then again I feel that the Big G or Google is really responsible for the sudden change in the SERPs that my site is enjoying. Is there any way that I control the SERPs that my web based site is getting?
