Do we focus too much money on entertainment ?

If we spent the same amount of money on helping others in less fortunate situations that we do on making movies, making records, funding tours, funding movie openings, funding actors salaries, funding all the other things that go into the entertainment industry (that in my opinion, are mostly a waste), on helping the world be a better place for the next, lets say, three to five years, it would do more good in the world. What are your thoughts on this ?

I'm with you on that 1!

And ESPECIALLY for people here, us... as webmasters and marketeers, we can help so much indirectly with this kinda of message.

... however, cinemas are a weak point for me! So-errr, I'd give something else up... just 1 thing. If we all made that 1 small sarcrifice, sure, we'd all be better off... or more to the point, those less fortunate.

I really appreciate your idea.. I think we must help as much as we can.. To do this you don't need to loose you comforts or enjoyment.. eg; if you go for 5 movies n a month make it to 3 or 4 times.. I think 1-3% from montly income can be donated..

Just wondering guys, has anyone made a website for this kinda stuff yet? I think it could be a good idea (if not already done) to pledge to give something up (or a little) and donate to charity... and you have your own profile with money saving/raising achievements etc.

I suppose there is justgiving.com etc, but they are more geared up for going that extra mile for a charity, where as this concept you guys talk about is more about a small sarcifice that anyone and everyone can take part in. Hmmm.
