Default running your forum/cms on pc

currently im using the latest phptriad to run my forum offline. i use it to test some modifications, templates or skins before the final installation on my online website. and now i bought a new forum software. i would like to explore it first on localhost. but the problem is, phptriad is using a version of mysql lower than my new forum software's requirement. so now i need to upgrade my mysql version and i dont know how to do it. can someone tell me how to upgrade phptriad's mysql or recommend a better software than phptriad? i would appreciate any help you can give.

Php Triad is a best software tool. I dont think that you can upgrade the mysql on the phptriad alone. That could be done only by the modules available. Icant find any supporting site for this software. Is there any, please make a post on here. I downloaded this software from the SourceForge.net site and i cant see any support available on there.

Well, I like using XAMPP. I haven't had any problems on it.

php triad looks pretty good. what kind of forum software are you using? phpbb, V bulletin, Invision powered boards, SMF..., that would help us to give you some iinformations, about your predicament

Im using xammp v1.5.3a. php and mysql versions are v5.1.4 and v5.0.21 respectively. Better than php triad in my opinion. Its only weird that my databases does not appear on winmysql since a connection on the server cannot establish. But that's not a problem, you can still use it. You can create or edit your databases and its tables on phpmyadmin.

I'm sure if you went to the MySQL website and downloaded the latest version, and then found where your databases are stored in your computer, overwrite the old version, you'd be able to do it. You might loose previous information on your database. o__O

Yes, i tried xammp and its pretty cool. Php and mysql are up to date. My fresh install ipb board now works perfectly fine. Except that when i tried to import my old database, it doesnt work. Errors says that the Maximum execution time of 300 seconds exceeded.. I changed the setting of max exec time on php.ini and it still doesnt work. Anyone knows how to sort it out?

Well it really depends on the user.

If you ask me, I would suggest EasyPHP from http://easyphp.org/. It is just a small package, one installer for everything! Apache, MySQL, PHP and phpMyAdmin. It doesn't take up much ram and running it is a breeze!

It minimizes to tray and its control panel is easy to use. But if you are happy with phpTriad, then why bother?
