I can't say I was blown away by The Da Vinci Code - as is often the case, the book was far superior. I generally like Tom Hanks in almost all his roles, however I found that I had such a pre-conception of what Robert Langdon should be, that it took me about half an hour to get used to Hanks occupying this character. Once I settled into it though - it was a thoroughly enjoyable, occasionally slow moving thriller. Having read the book, I did have a knowledge of the various groups and factions involved - I'm not sure how someone who hasn't read the book will fair though. The casting of the movie is surely one of it's stronger points - Paul Bettany is almost unrecognisable and plays the menacing single minded Silas to utter perfection. Sir Ian McKellan too, it totally fantastic, and really steals most scene's he appears in. He delivers some great one liners too - a real character actor playing a real character. Audrey Tautou is as we have come to expect, just lovely, and who else could have played Bezu Fache - Jean Reno was made for the role. As you'd expect from a Ron Howard Production, there is a good amount of cheese, especially towards the end. Langdon's "Godspeed" caused me to awake in the night sweating! I am a fairly harsh marker on the IMDb, so don't be put off by a 6 out of 10 - I did enjoy the movie, but my anticipation was so great with this film, that it could never live up to my expectation.

I haven't watched that movie and decided not to watch it. My pa bought me that game last week and I gave it to friends. I dare not watch scary things. When I did, I couldn't sleep all night long. Ahhhhhhhhhh ((

Whaaat? Who told you that movie was scary? It isn't a scary movie it is an intelectual film. IMO, I think that it was okay. The book really goes into detail on every little thing and the history behind everything they talk about. So for those who saw the movie and did not read the book the movie will be really confusing because it is impossible for the movie to explain everything without surpassing like 5 hours or more :dunno:

I thought the book was ok, but it wasnt as great as everyone made out it was. The movie on the other hand I really didnt like, it wasn't scarey or anything. I agree with RESGuy that you should read the book before watching the movie.

this review may be can give you decision that da vinci code is good to read to you or not:

The mere fact that I’m a historian of early Christianity does not mean I don’t like picking up an occasional pulp-thriller, checking my brains at the door, and spending a couple of evenings riding a surging wave of cheesy prose down an implausible course of events that eventually breaks with the bad guy getting his comeuppance, and the good guy getting whatever it was he was looking for, and the girl he was looking for it with.

When one is in my position, as a historian that is, one must learn early on, if one wants to embark on such escapist adventures, to wink at great heaping multitudes of blatant historical errors. Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code is fantastic as a flash-in-the-pan pulp thriller. It takes you on a white-knuckle ride, without ever once distracting you with a well-turned phrase or a round character. Not only so, but its plot is also a good deal tighter than many of its market competitors. Still the only reason I can conceive of anyone wanting to do The Da Vinci Code twice is that they forgot what it was about.

Some readers spurn genre fiction, often due to a misguided belief that mass entertainment is always mindless dribble. For those of you who know better, The Da Vinci Code will make you feel justifiably smug. It's that rare book that manages to both entertain and educate simultaneously. Dan Brown has managed to outdo the best of Robert Ludlum in this byzantine....and engrossing story. There is enough medieval history to please any historian and enough action to satisfy a hardcore thrill-seeker. Combined, it makes The Da Vinci Code an early favorite for thriller of the year. .. a must see
