Just completed a site for my local town. After much difficulty getting anyone to respond so I could get real information to include, we finally went ahead with slightly older info and much self-written filler and images we (mostly) took ourselves. Please take a minute and offer opinions, if you will.

Nice job. Very clean, loads quick. The only thing that seemed to be missing was weather, which seems to be a staple of city guide type sites, not that yours needs it. I liked the color scheme, its not one you see used often and that's a plus.

    Bear,

Site looks great, well done. As Chirspian mentioned the colour scheme is different which is good.

    A couple of suggestions below;

The things to do sections might benefit from having links to the other areas at the bottom. For eg if I visit the shopping area it could be useful to have the links to the walking tours etc on the bottom so I don't need to go "back" to see what else I could do.

I'd probably include a link to the "links" section from the business section.

The calendar is a great idea, should be very useful for visitors and locals.

Good to see you are using a links directory. I started an Irish portal site a couple of years ago and just used tables for listings of links. It now needs updating with a links directory. Lots of time will be required to get the links into the links directory. So I think it's worth using a directory from the beginning even if the number of links is initially low.

BTW how do you feel links dept. compares to something like Indexu?

Overall it's a great site which sould be an asset to Oxford.

    Good luck with it,

    This is just a suggestion...

You may want to create photoshop buttons for the top navigation and some of the important headers in the tables. It always looks so much more professional to have both done that way. Just beware of the "effects". Effects are good, but too much of anything is bad.

If you decide to continue with the underlined links for the top nav, you may want to add some space between the underlines and the table below it. It looks very cramped the way it is right now.

Otherwise the site looks great! Nice job! If I head out there, I'll definitely use this site as a guide!

Sorry about the delay in review.. but I've been quite busy.. but I think I'll post my 2c

The overall structure of the site is good.. It works relatively smoothly, and loads quickly enough..

The design isn't too bad, the color scheme seems to work. However first thing I would do is get rid of the background, they look tacky, and like the have been built in MS word, or FrontPage.. try and have a plain background.. it will give more emphasis on the text.

Also, the header cell that has a gradient green is nice, but its just floating there, get rid of that spacing and make it fill the top part of the table.. it looks a little lost just sitting there.

    All in all.. nice site..

    Cheers.. ex

A very simple design/layout but well executed. One minor thing... the text seems quite tight on the image on the front page (and on other images on the site)... you might like to give that image a little more HSPACE.

Hi, I like it and the idea, I have just finished something similar for the new area I live in http://seaton.computingfuture.co.uk/

There is an issue with the pop down menus where when scrolling across to one without a drop down the previous menu remains.

There is a free php photo gallery script I used on my site, I would highly recommend it to you as it allows your users to add photographs on your website.

The forum idea is good as it allows users to add comments and more importantly content to your website.

    Hi.
Could you explain a bit more about the issue you had with the menus? In al the browsers I tested, when you move to one without a drop down, it disappears after a few seconds. What happened to you, and what browser, please?
