What is Joomla?

Can someone explain to me in their own words what Joomla is?

joomla is a cms.
I tried to use it it is very confusing.
I am now using wordpress.
joomla has got very less themes as compared to wordpress.

yes joomla is Content Management System (CMS)..it help in building websites or blogs..& yeh as falguni1 said it is very confusing ..

it is totally free System !!

but i prefer workpress over joomla..

well joomla is a powerful CMS, you can also customize it the way you want it. the only drawback to me that is compared to wordpress is the implementation of modules, unlike wordpress you just need to upload the plugins and activate.

Joomla is very powerful CMS. I used it. And if U never used any other CMS, joomla is not good way to start creating sites with CMS.
