anyone know of a good editor i can use for this?

im thinking something like notepad but with better usability

Dreamweaver is too good for it. But if you want to use images editing then go for photoshop cs3

i use GVIM (vim.org) as my editor for everything, it has colour syntax hilighting. that and the w3c validator (http://validator.w3.org/) that should be all you need =)
