Can you give some more details about your external HD? A lot of the ones I've seen connect to a power supply and a USB port, but I don't know if yours is a different kind...

If your hard disk is external then it must be usb you should have usb port to connect hard disk and its pretty simple just plugin the hdd and you are ready to use it
