There are certain issues that designers do not consider when developing a web application. There are certain design issues that are looked over in most of the cases. It is very important that even the minute details of the design have a reason why it is designed in such a way.
Here are a few techniques that when implemented will minimize the bounce rate of the website and bring in more traffic.
Tabbed navigation
It is true that most of the websites implement the tabbed navigation for the main navigation menu. But that is not the end of it. There are websites that has a large number of pages. It is a big complaint that the navigational links and the content blend together where it is hard for the visitor to get what he wants. It is advisable hat tabbed navigation even inside the inner pages help to a great extent. This idea increases the user friendliness of the website. A menu that looks like folders where the name is on a tab will easily draw the attention of the user. This enhances the visual metaphor. All the pages become clear and the user can understand what is happening and where he has to go to get his solution. The browsing remains in control of the user.
Background should be darkened under modal windows
Most of the windows and pages don not deserve a dedicated page for little content present there. In this case, the designers follow the technique which is called the modal window technique. A modal window is something that shows up when a link is clicked on a page. It does not get redirected to a different page rather a smaller transparent page pops up. This technique is followed in a lot of designs but is not successful most of the times due to one key reason. The layout and color combination does not blend with each other. This in the end minimizes user visibility and readability.
To make this design successful, it is important that you darken the content that is present on the background. This gives a transparent effect to the modal window which draws the focus of the user. This also communicates with the user saying only the modal window content has the necessary information and not the darkened window.
Lightboxes and Slideshows
Lightboxes and slideshows are of a great help in a lot of ways. A lot of website these days has huge gallery sections. Displaying each image in a separate page can be annoying. It is also a difficult task for the programmer. The loading speed of the website slows down each time the server loads a new page back and forth. Implementing the concept of slideshows and lighboxes can be a great idea. Slideshows are used to display image in the same window where the images only keep sliding back and forth. The lightbox method is nothing but the image opening in a new modal window when clicked which again does not load on a new page. This also beautifies the gallery section of the website.
Sign-up and payment forms
This is one of the key areas that have to be focused. This can make or break the relationship between the company and the potential customer. It is necessary that you design forms in such a way where all the payment and shipping details come under one page. It is a hard task for the customer to toggle between different pages just to complete one form. The sign-up form also can be shortened. The optional elements can be filled once the customer has registered.
