Obviously for the staff involved it's a rotten situation but considering the company as a whole, will cutting the staff by 5000 as announced be enough to save them from the economic mire all companies are facing these days? Microsoft announced those cuts on Thursday, followed by another announcement that they were halting the construction of the Iowa Data Center indefinitely. The situation will be reviewed every quarter they say but really, common sense tells me they're unlikely to resume that project anytime soon.
It is harder for big businesses to fend off trouble when recession hits or small ones? I don't know but I think neither can be complacent about it.
