Master Pages have been implemented in microsofts dot net framework 2.0 These help in generating common areas in website. If you want to take part in google adsense then you can have div tags on your master pages so that you can place contextual ads on your page wherever you want.

I am a dot net developer but would prefer to stay away from master page instead i will use user define component which is providing better dynamic website creations
