Why Are You Not Making A Lot Of Money?
by Published on 09-06-2009 02:40 PM
We all want to make a lot of money, even if some of us are reluctant to admit it. Even if you look at money as a means to an end rather than an end in itself, it is still very useful in helping you achieve your end.
So, made enough money to retire yet?
You are probably looking for another job with better pay, and looking to take on a second job, and thinking of what else you can do in your spare time.
I'm sure that you are starting to come up against a ceiling you might not have realized existed - that there are only 24 hours in a single day.
So, right now, you are probably working your butt off, and making pretty good money. You have enough to spend, and then some. You drive a nice car, and can holiday in exotic locales if the fancy strikes you.
But in exchange for the good life, you effectively have no life at all because you spend all your time working.
But among your circle of friends, there are some who "buck the trend". In some ways they are like you in that they are well-educated, intelligent and well-to-do.
But the resemblance ends when it comes to their relationship with work. They never seem to work late at the office, they always seem to have time to chat on the phone and actually, half of their time seems to be spent on the golf course, or in their clubs, or otherwise relaxing.
In short, those friends of yours are really your peers in all respects except one - they have a life and you don't.
Do you know why that is so?
Well, I really can't speak for you or your friends but I think the difference could be your attitude towards money. I might put it simply as:
"An honest day's work for an honest day's pay."
You are all about getting paid x dollars for x hours of work, while they are all about results.
You believe in your own ability, and your own resources. You always believe that you are the best person for the job, and delegate only as a last resort. While such an attitude is admirable, it can be a hindrance when you are trying to earn a lots of money. You will probably find yourself too involved in the day to day running of your job or business, leaving no time for the more important task of planning and goal setting.
How do you think your friends will go about trying to make more money?
I am quite sure that working harder would not be the way that they are going to do it. Most likely they will be looking to see how they can make the money while still spending the same amount of time and effort.
You need to come to terms with the fact that it is not about how many hours you work, but about the results that you produce.
So, start leveraging your time and talent instead of simply exchanging them for cash.
