You're friends talk about Twitter and you decide to give it a try. You ask, 'What is important about my Twitter profile? Just how do I set it up?' The answer is, there are no single rules for Twitter. You'll hear many conflicting opinions.

I'm going to share with you my personal opinions from my experience with Twitter. I suggest that you view my suggestions much like a buffet. Pick what appeals to you and by-pass the rest.

Why Your Twitter Profile is Important

The quality of your Twitter experience will be largely be determined by the quality of people who choose to follow you. When evaluating whether to follow someone, people will look at your entire profile.

My Recommendations For Your Twitter Bio Are:

* Take time to create the best bio you can. Your Twitter bio is limited to 160 characters or less.
* Describe yourself, not your company nor your product.
* If you have a hobby or special interest, include that in your bio. It makes you relatable.
* Do not include a 2nd website in your bio. That is considered in--your--face promotion.
* Think about your niche. What kind of followers do you want to attract?
* Give people something to relate to. What is unique about you? Are you passionate about living green? Include some keywords that describe you. This is how people will find you & determine if they want to follow you. They are looking for common interests or an expertise.
* When creating your bio, think about your targeted audience that you want to serve. Twitter is not the place to be overly self promotional. The era of in-your-face advertising is being rejected and ignored. People want to do business with people they KNOW, LIKE, and TRUST. In my case, it took time to define my niche and I'm still refining it. It has evolved from general to specific.
