The Role of Meta Tags

A vital role is played by Meta tags description and keywords because they are indexed in a particular way. The top search engines don't index keywords that they consider spam nor will they index certain stop words such as a, the, or, or of. This is done to save space and speed up the process. Now they don't index images themselves, but search engines do index image descriptions, Alt text and the text that is left as comments.
The search engine software or program is the final part. Once someone requests a search on a keyword or phrase, the search engine software searches the index for relevant information. The software then renders a report back to the person who made the request with the most applicable web pages listed in the first position.
These directories collect listings of websites into particular industry, subject categories, and they usually carry a short description on the website. To be included in a directory requires that a person manually submits the information to the directory producers. Quite often you will find researchers and visitors who are on the internet that will use these directories to find relevant sites and information sources.
Another important reason is that crawler engines quite often find websites to crawl through their listings and links in directories.
Some of the biggest search engines like Google get over two hundred million searches per day. Yahoo is the second largest with about a third of what Google receives in searches.
Never under estimate the power of search engines and the role of meta tags.
