Default No more image placement next to Adsense ad units

It has now been officially announced by Google that placing of images next to Adsense ad units and trick the users into clicking on the ad is no longer allowed.

In my opinion, this is definitely a good move. Maybe not very good for publishers in a direct way, but it is. Advertisers' losses are surely going to come down by this - meaning they have more funds to spend on Adwords. Thus, higher CPC for publishers.

Please visit the Google Adsense Blog to find out more about this new policy modification.

    Regards,
    Nithanth

yeah.. well.. i know that this image placement thing was just another trick to lead the visitors into clicking the ads.. but it had also, like any other technique, become obsolete.. so.. i guess.. well.. anyways.. nice move.. but i still see many publishers placing images next to their ads!

Well, what does it mean to place images beside the google adsense advertisements? Should it not have been illegal all along, to confuse people to click the advertisements. Nice move by Google Adsense, they can only get better in this way. I think this move will be good for everyone.

Actually.. image placement earlier was one of the tricks to increase CTR.. while it did have explosive effects for many of the publishers.. some pubs did not see much of an increase.. and so google did not take on this too seriously.. but recently.. some pubs have designed the graphics and ads so cunningly that people are clicking withought any reason.. and so.. google had to take this action!

I think that it is a smart move from Google. And it's time that they are paying attention to little details. I would say that most of the time, I didn't even know when I clicked ads on websites accidentally, cuz' I was thinking it was an internal link of those websites. People have got more creative with Adsense ads and they are able to make their ads look more "native" to their webpages which tricks the user into clicking the links. I would have done that with my ad code, but I think I should stay legal for now.

As with rumman, I have accidentally clicked Pay-Per Click targeted ads before on some web-sites. The worst offenders of this practice I have come accross with this are tutorial sites. While happily browsing through a list of tutorials, I see this so as it seems "listing" with a nice picture beside it. Then I accidentally click the link, and still I have to take a second to realise that those are labelled "ADS". Agreed, This is a fair decision on the part of Google.

Well, as I never really liked to use google adsense image ads, I don't have a problem with it, but it is definitely much better, because as everyone said, it is a way of cheating.. I like to use text ads.

Besides, I never really see any of those kind of sites having lots of images and a google adsense image ad.. :S

I don't think this as anything to do with Adsense Image (banner) ads. Instead the way I see it, I think they mean a technique that looks like this is prohibited:

I found this in the listings of a tutorial website, well maybe this one is a little more obvious that it's not related at all to Fireworks tutorials! They're using Ads by Yahoo, I wonder if they have a similar proviso yet. Anyways, I hope this clears things up for you.
